HOFA RESCUE will have an ADV Clinic end of July/beginning of Aug that is open to anyone. We will help you with the collection and sending in of samples. Look for dates on this website. If you wish to do on your own, below is how.
Collection
Collect sufficient blood to fill 2 heparnized capillary tubes(see below) per ferret. Plug one end with a polyclay (see below). Identify each sample in the shipment. Most people carefully clip their ferrets toenail too short and collect from it. Others take to Vet to get samples drawn.
While clipping toenail may sound cruel..if feeding Salmon Oil at same time…usually helps console. It is a two person job. One to scruf and feed salmon oil, other to clean off paw, clip nail and hold tube up to nail so blood goes in. A little styptic powder or corn starch on will stop the bleeding if it doesn’t stop on own.
A 6” x 12” wide strip of corrugated box side with paper removed from one side so channels are open can be used. Use a strip of masking tape to form pocket on bottom to hold into channels and carefully put one across the tubes to hold them in once filled. Leave a space between each set of two if more than one ferret. Label each two samples with the ferrets name or number as on CEP ADV Test Form. You can put a strip of masking tape on bottom so you can write on it. Then you can roll up and cover with bubble wrap and place in small box – USPA 3-Day express small box works.

Shipment
Package samples so that they are not crushed in shipment. We recommend UPS or FedEx Next Day service from most areas, but other overnight services are acceptable. 3-Day USPS Express works also.

Be sure to complete the CEP ADV form with your name, address, email address, phone and if you want each ferrets results on separate letters in the package.
Payment
Enclose with each shipment a check, money order or credit card information (cardholder name, card number and expiration date). The charge for each sample is $10.00.
Results
Normally, results are done within 5 business days after receipt of the sample(s). You should get an email/text within 5 days and hard copies in the mail in about week.
