Hotel/Motel Guidelines for Shows
Ferret Buckeye Bash 2026
Note: Because some ferret people have been irresponsible and have left their rooms in poor condition, we are finding it increasingly difficult to secure suitable housing for our shows.
For this reason, the Heart of Ohio Ferret Association and Rescue/Ferret Buckeye Bash is issuing the following guidelines for exhibitors to ensure that we continue to be welcomed at hotels/motels.
Ferrets are NOT to be placed on the floors and/or furniture in the hotel room, this includes the bed AND THE BATHROOM. You do not know what chemicals were used to clean or for insect control on that floor before you checked in. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Cages with solid plastic bottoms are allowed on furniture/counter but it’s recommended to place a blanket on table so as not to scratch the furniture/counter. NO EXCEPTIONS!
If you are using a playpen to let your ferret get exercise and said playpen does not have a solid plastic bottom, you need to have a piece of linoleum or thick plastic underneath it to protect the floor from accidents and digging. Blankets do not work – light-weight plastic or tarps do not work! NEVER PLACE DIRECTLY ON CARPET. This is to protect the hotel’s carpet as well as to protect your pet. Again…You do not know what chemicals were used on that floor before you checked in.
Bring your own trash bags and paper towels for disposal of ferret litter and trash. Do not use hotel trash cans as the smell will penetrate the cans.
Owners need to bring their own towels for bathing ferrets. Hotel/Motel equipment should not be used for cleaning.
Owners should clean up any trash on the floor before they check out of the room. If the ferret has kicked litter or food on the floor this should be cleaned up by the owner before check out.
Rooms should be sprayed with an odor neutralizer such as Febreze or Oust to remove ferret odors right before check out.
Ferrets MUST be kept in their cages when going thru the hotel lobby and hallways. Ferrets are NOT allowed loose even with a harness and leash. NO walking ferrets in hallways or lobby.
Please leave your room looking the way it was when you checked in if not better.
Please do NOT keep a Hotel Cart in your room for an extended period. Carts are limited. Please be considerate of other hotel guests needing use of the cart.
Note: We may do random checks to make sure that these guidelines have been followed and have asked the hotel to contact us if they have any issues. Any one violating the above guidelines will be charged for any additional cleaning/repair that is needed by the hotel.
You may be banned from further participation at any future Ferret Buckeye Bash and possibly other ferret shows. You will also be reported to the American Ferret Association for alerts at any upcoming ferrets shows you may attend.
YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO SIGN, DATE, PUT YOUR PHONE NUMBER AND NAME HOTEL STAYING AT ON THE ORIGINAL AGREEMENT.
We are returning to Candelwood Suites Polaris! GREAT location, plenty of resturants and shopping. The hotel does have a pool. Location is just North of I-270 on West side of I-71. Just 11 miles from show hall..15 minute Drive.
We are fortunate to find hotels that will allow ferrets as so many do not allow. Please treat the hotel with respect and abide by the AFA/HOFA Hotels Guidelines.
PLEASE READ THE BELOW GUIDELINES!
You WILL be asked to sign a copy of the Guidelines by the hotel in addition to needing to turn in a copy at show hall check-in.
